To re-colour a piece of leather furniture in matching tones, the AVEL products allow you to use a procedure similar to leather finishing in the tanning industry. These products can be applied on all smooth and non varnished leathers.

If your leather is only very lightly discoloured, please consult the advice card "Renovation and care for a leather sofa", where you'll find solutions for every day maintenance rich enough in pigments to refresh the colour of your leather. These are often sufficient, and you always have the option to choose the following repigmenting procedure later on if necessary.

1- The first step is to remove all stains and clean the leather completely.

. For stain-removing, consult our advice card "Removing stains on Leather Furniture", if necessary.

. For cleaning, Valmour proposes Cleaning Regenerating Soap AVEL which you apply with a Sponge. It removes all coats of wax, removes ingrained dirt and gives back the natural appearance of the leather and opens its pores to allow in-depth penetration of the pigmenting cream.

. Attention, the sebum which can accumulate in areas in contact with the skin (head and arm-rests, for example) must be completely eliminated with Stain Remover Hussard Spray Leather and Textile.

. The ideal way to prepare your leather afterwards is by treating it with Polish Thinner, a very easy operation of little cost. But this treatment is not essential on all types of leather. Only a test in our lab can determine whether it is. In case of doubt, prefer to have your leather tested.

2- Once the leather is clean, dry and greaseless, apply the products for re-pigmentation which will remove any discolouration, wear, cracks...etc. and give it back its original finish.

Proceed in 2 steps :

- Spread Pigmenting Cream AVEL

by massaging it onto the leather in small quantities with the help of the Foam Applicator Pad or a Cotton Cloth. Let dry for approx. 5 hours. Test the right penetration of the product and the choice of colour on a hidden part of the leather. In case of traces left by the cream, use a humid Natural Sea Sponge, a paint roller or try dabbing to improve attachment of the first coat.

- Afterwards, it is essential to fix the Pigmenting Cream AVEL with Pigmenting Cream Fixing Liquid AVEL,

to be applied with a Sponge.  Allow to dry, then polish with Valmour Shine Glove or a wool cloth. Each coat has to be fixed, to give perfect hold to the colour and prevent any discharge on your clothes.
For a matt finish, apply a single coat of Rife Varnish Liquid Saphir afterwards.

 Remarks :

- If necessary, you can apply 2 coats of Pigmenting Cream. Do not forget to fix the first coat before applying the second one.
- Valmour also proposes the development of a custom-made Pigmenting  Cream AVEL. Select this choice of colour in the product description and add your colour reference (the nr. of a previously custom-made colour, the nr. of a colour on our Colour Chart, a reference on the RAL Colour Chart , or "sample" if you send us a mall piece of your leather for testing.
- Count about 30 € per seat for a colour in stock and 50 € per seat for a custom-made colour.
- To re-pigment small surfaces (ottoman), you can use Dye JUVACUIR  Saphir (19 colours), or Renovating Cream Saphir ( 44 colours).
- To frecsh up the colour without really re-dyeing , please consult the advice card "Taking Care of a Leather Sofa".
- Protect your hands with our Black Nitrile Rubber Gloves below !

As soon as you receive your products, we recommend to carry out all these operations on a small hidden part of your leather( on the back of a cushion, for example) to check the compatibility  and the necessary quantities. You can also send us a leather sample to test for you.
