Frame Gilding

Gilding varnishes and waxes allow to gild, restore and care for new objects and renovate those with damaged gilt. The red gilding primer for these varnishes and waxes allows to patinate the base, imitating the effects obtained with gold leaf. The green and black gilding primer permits to patinate the gilding and imitate bronze.

If you are renovating a gilding, first make sure the gilding is clean by cleaning it with Valmour Gilding Cleaner. 

Gilding with varnish : 

Extremely fine and fluid, Gilding Varnish LOUIS XIII has great covering power and gives a nice durable shine without any trace of brush stroke. Adheres directly to wood, plaster, staff, stone, metal... 
To give more patina and depth to a new support, apply first a coat of Red Gilding Primer LOUIS XIII. Once the primer is dry, shake the jar of Gilding Varnish LOUIS XIII to homogenize the contents and apply with a soft brush.
Guilding Varnish Louis XIII is available in 2 shades, rich gold and antique gold, which can be mixed together to get closer to the colour of the guilding you want to renovate, if you only want to make some localized touch-ups.
If the touch-ups are too apparent, they can be patinated with Judean Bitumen Louis XIII to make the blend in with the existing gilt colour.
