If you're in doubt concerning the nature of the metal surface you want to paint, test it with a magnet: aluminium will not attract the magnet. To paint aluminium, Valmour recommends to proceed according to the following 2 steps :
1- PREPARATION :
To begin with, make sure that the metal surface is clean by brushing it with the Bronze Brush LOUIS XIII. Avoid sandblasting as well as anti-rust products.
The metal also needs to be completely greaseless: if necessary, eliminate any grease with the DILUVAL Thinner below.
Afterwards, apply a coat of WASH PRIMER, which will contribute to a better hold of a finishing paint on light alloy and non-ferrous metal.
2- FINISHING :
This is, strictly speaking, the painting which will give the final appearance. There are 2 types of paint:
. Monocomponent : an excellent value for money, this paint has the advantage of being less expensive and ready-to-use. Choose on of the following 3 appearances:
- mat : use the TRIPLEMAT
- satiny : use the TOLEMAIL SPECIAL IRONWORKS
- shiny : use the SUPER SHINY LACQUER or the AGRIVAL. The latter dies more quickly and is the ideal paint for tools, gates, agricultural engines , girders...
- Bi-component : composed of a base and a hardener to be mixed before application, this product represents the best quality available used by the professionals in the industrial sector. Choose between 2 formulas:
- VALPOX for its high mecanic resistance. This is the ideal epoxy paint for farming implements and those exposed to chemical agents. VALPOX can also be mixed with silica to obtain a non-slip floor.
- OMNILACQUER for its high resistance to bad weather conditions. This polyurethane lacquer is ideal for surfaces exposed to bad weather, in particular in a marine environment.
3- PROTECTION :
This step is optional and allows to complete the finishing by adding a protective varnish to increase the life of the paint, and thereby prolonging the intervals between renovation. Depending on the previously applied finishing paint : mono- or bi-component, you have the choice between:
- a monocomponent varnish: MARINE VARNISH LOUIS XIII
- a bi-component varnish: OMNIVARNISH.
Remarks :
If you want to apply a protective high temperature paint onto an aluminium surface, do not apply a primer which would make this paint loose its high temperature properties. Pickle the aluminium surface by applying our Pickling Liquid Valmour. Let work for 15 mn, rinse with clear water and let dry. Afterwards, directly apply one of the following high temperature paints : TOLEMAIL Silver HT or TOLEMAIL Black HT.
