To repaint a cast iron radiator, Valmour suggests to proceed as follows:
1- Preparation:
Prepare your radiator to be able to apply the paint onto a clean, dry and greaseless surface.
- If necessary, eliminate the old coat of paint with Gel Stripper VALMOUR. Its gel formula is particularly adapted for vertical surfaces.
- In case of rust, sand or brush the radiator. Afterwards, we advise to apply STOP RUST, which will transform any remaining or future rust into a protective coat. As rust develops to the detriment of this product, the more of it you apply, the longer the protection.
- Before, if necessary, remove any grease with acetone.
2- Paint:
Afterwards, you can apply a decorative paint. As the temperature of a radiator does not rise above 65°C, it is not mandatory to use a high temperature paint, but important to use a paint of professional quality.
Choose between monocomponent or bi-component paint:
* monocomponent:
- metallic: choose between TOLEMAIL Silver or TOLEMAIL Gilt Paint ( 2 shades of gold).
- satin shine: TOLEMAIL Special Ironwork proposing 16 colours.
- matt: use TRIPLE MAT FLAMBO
Afterwards, you can protect your radiator with Cristal Varnish.
* bi-component :
For the best result in terms of quality and life span, begin by applying Anti Rust Epoxy Primer, followed by OMNILACQUER Valmour.
3- Varnish:
For increased protection of your painted radiators, you can afterwards apply a varnish.
* on monocomponent paint, choose Cristal Varnish Louis XIII.
* on bi-component paint, use OMNIVARNISH Valmour.
Remarks :
OMNIVARNISH Valmour ca also be used on its own, by applying it directly onto the rust-free cast iron surface. This polyurethane bi-component varnish will give a protection of professional quality and allows to conserve the natural appearance of cast iron.
